While implementing project No. LT06-4VRM-TF-001 “Strengthening of Inter-agency Cooperation and Increasing of Crime Investigation Quality in the Lithuanian Police,
funded under the Norwegian financial mechanism programme 2014-2021, in June - July 2021 the Lithuanian Police Forensic Science Centre arranged two training sessions (each lasting 3 days) titled “Recording and collection of traces of firearm use while examining the scene of incident; crime scene reconstruction” with the participation of twenty six forensic specialists from Kaunas, Klaipėda, Marijampolė, Šiauliai, Tauragė, Telšiai and Utena county police headquarters, who conduct investigations (examinations) of scenes of incident. While the theoretical part of the training was delivered in Šiauliai Professional Development and Training Centre, the practical part took place in the indoor shooting range of Šiauliai County Police Headquarters and in the outdoor shooting range located in Šiauliai district.

According to Tomas Butrimas, Head of the Lithuanian Police Forensic Science Centre (hereafter referred to as” LPFSC”) and the Second Assistant of the Project Manager (for the part of LPFSC), it is most welcome that after breaking free from the grip of the pandemic, it became possible to organise the first in-class training session of the two. No practical contact training courses on this subject have been provided over the last few years, thus we see that the two training sessions will satisfy, at least partially, the need for professional development of forensic staff. The training on recording and collecting of traces of firearm use while examining the scene of incident and crime scene reconstruction is characterised by devoting a large proportion, i.e. even 70 percent of the course - to practical workshops. During the practical workshops training participants will acquire practical skills in how to detect, record, collect and pack traces of and objects with the traces of the use of firearms, while examining the scene of incident, and how to establish circumstances related the use of firearms.
