On September 6th-9th, 2022, representatives of the law enforcement participated in the second workshop of the project "Improving Work Quality and Enhancing Competences of the Justice Chain to Protect Victims of Domestic and Gender-Based Violence", which took place in Trakai. The workshop was intended for the lecturers and the participants to discuss a very important question – do we satisfy the needs of those going through the criminal justice process?
During the workshop, not only the challenges and investigation methods but also the roles and expectations of the representatives of the justice chain and the persons involved in the criminal proceedings were discussed. Speakers from Norway shared their experience – Project Coordinator, Police superintendent of the Oslo police district Renate Saetre, technicians of the Department of the Forensic and Technical Investigations Rune Engevik and Anders Hjelle, prosecutor Oda Karterud child interview specialists Angela Claire Wermuth and Rakel Kristina Hauge gave lecturers on the various topics of domestic violence. The workshop also included presentations of Mykolas Romeris University lecturers Aleksandr Segal, prof. dr. Regina Valutytė, dr. Marina Gušauskienė, dr. Dovilė Murauskienė, who presented a research study analysing the peculiarities and trends of domestic violence and gender-based crimes in Lithuania.
The main objective of the workshop was not only to improve the knowledge and to learn about the good practice of foreign countries but also to strengthen the inter-institutional cooperation at the national and international level – according to the norwegian experts, only by learning from each other and sharing our skills we will be able to find new and effective ways of investigating cases of domestic violence and to help people affected by this widespread problem.
